屋久島国際写真祭（YPF）が進める「ファウンド・フォト・アーカイブス・プロジェクト（FPAP）」は、屋久島町内26集落に残された古写真を掘り起こし、地域社会の見えざる歴史を紡ぎ直す取り組みです。
本展では、これまでに実施された5地区(湯泊・一湊・安房・長峰・小杉谷)のアーカイブから選出された写真群を一堂に集め、屋久島全体に広がる記憶の断片を俯瞰する構成を試みます。

会場となる屋久島環境文化村センターは、自然と人、文化と未来をつなぐ象徴的な公共施設。本展は、島の複数の集落から掘り起こされた家族アルバムの断片を、島内外の人々がともに見つめ直す「共有の場」として設計されています。
それぞれの写真は、かつては誰かのために残されたものでした。けれど今、それらが並び、時代や地域を越えて共鳴することで、島の風景と記憶の地層が、静かに可視化されていきます。

FPAPが重視するのは、写真を“つなげる”こと。家族のアルバムから集まった視線が、やがて島の時間軸を再構成し、次世代へ受け渡す文化的資源となる——その過程こそがこのプロジェクトの核にあります。

本展は、写真というメディアの原点である「家族」「地域」「記憶」に立ち返りながら、断絶と継承のはざまに生まれる“物語”を静かに呼び起こす場所です。地域住民の方々の多大なるご協力に心より感謝を捧げつつ、ここから始まる対話が、未来の島のかたちを映し出すことを願ってやみません。

The Found Photo Archives Project (FPAP), initiated by the Yakushima Photography Festival (YPF), is an ongoing effort to unearth old photographs preserved in the island’s 26 settlements and to weave them into a renewed narrative of the community’s unseen history.

This exhibition brings together a selection of images from the archives of five districts—Anbo, Nagamine, Yudomari, Isso, and Nagata—as well as Kosugidani, presenting them side by side in an attempt to create a panoramic view of the fragments of memory that span the whole island.

The venue, the Yakushima Environmental Culture Village Center, is a symbolic public facility that bridges nature and people, culture and the future. Conceived as a “shared space,” the exhibition invites residents and visitors alike to revisit the fragments of family albums excavated from multiple communities across the island. Each photograph was once kept for someone, somewhere—but now, placed together and allowed to resonate across eras and regions, they quietly render visible the layered landscape and memory of Yakushima.

At the heart of FPAP is the act of connecting photographs. The gazes gathered from family albums gradually reconfigure the island’s own timeline, transforming into cultural resources to be passed on to future generations. It is this process—of connecting, reframing, and transmitting—that forms the core of the project.

By returning to the origins of photography—family, community, and memory—this exhibition becomes a place where stories are quietly awakened in the space between loss and inheritance. With heartfelt gratitude for the generous cooperation of the island’s residents, we hope the dialogues that begin here will help to illuminate the shape of Yakushima’s future.​​​​
