2025年、屋久島国際写真祭（YPF）は創設10周年という節目を迎えます。その歩みの中で築かれてきた国際的なネットワークと、多様な写真表現との出会いを振り返る試みとして開催されるのが「YPF セレクション展」です。

本展は、YPFアートディレクター、共同創設者、ディレクターによる共同キュレーションに基づき、フランス・アルルで毎夏開催される国際写真祭「Les Rencontres d’Arles」会期中に、YPF展として現地ギャラリーで発表された作品群を改めて紹介します。世界有数の写真の舞台で展示された作品が、今度は屋久島という自然と文化の交差点に帰還し、異なる文脈の中で新たな対話を生み出します。

ホテル「THE HOTEL YAKUSHIMA OCEAN & FOREST」のギャラリースペースに展開される展示は、島から海外へ、そして海外から島へと循環してきたYPFの活動を象徴するものです。それぞれの作家の視点は断片的でありながらも、共にひとつの空間に並ぶことで、調和と多層性を帯びた“世界のモザイク”を形づくります。

「YPF セレクション展」は、これまでの活動を再訪すると同時に、地域に根ざした表現がどのように国際的な舞台へと開かれ、また逆にその経験が地域に還流していくのかを示す場です。10周年を迎える本展を通して、YPFが培ってきた「地域と世界をつなぐ循環」を改めて実感していただけるでしょう。

In 2025, the Yakushima Photography Festival (YPF) marks its 10th anniversary. As part of this milestone, the “YPF Selection Exhibition” reflects on the festival’s trajectory by revisiting encounters with artists and photographic expressions that have shaped its path.

Curated jointly by the YPF art director, co-founder, and director, this exhibition features works originally presented during the renowned international photography festival Les Rencontres d’Arles in France, where YPF held its own showcase at a local gallery. Now returning to Yakushima, these works are re-situated in a different context, generating renewed dialogue between the island and the wider world.

Displayed within the gallery space of THE HOTEL YAKUSHIMA OCEAN & FOREST, the exhibition symbolizes the circulation at the heart of YPF’s mission: from the island to overseas, and back again. Each artist’s perspective, while fragmentary in itself, comes together in a shared space to form a harmony and layered resonance—a mosaic-like vision of the world.

The “YPF Selection Exhibition” revisits the history of the festival while also questioning how locally rooted expression can reach an international stage, and how such experiences, in turn, flow back into the local context. On its 10th anniversary, this exhibition invites visitors to rediscover the cycles of encounter and exchange that YPF has nurtured over the past decade, connecting region and world through photography.
