屋久島国際写真祭（YPF）が進める「ファウンド・フォト・アーカイブス・プロジェクト（FPAP）」は、屋久島町内26集落に残された古写真を掘り起こし、地域社会の見えざる歴史を紡ぎ直す取り組みです。本展「#04 長峰」展では、長峰区の家庭アルバムから集められた写真群を公開します。

長峰は、昭和初期に開拓団によって切り開かれた地区です。急峻な地形と厳しい自然条件の中で、新しい生活を築こうとした人々の努力が刻まれた土地でもあります。展示される写真には、開墾の風景、農作業に励む人々、子どもたちの学校生活や地域の行事などが収められており、長峰の「始まり」の記憶が鮮やかに映し出されています。

ここに並ぶイメージは、単なる家族の記録にとどまりません。それは、未開の土地を生活の場へと変えていった世代の視線であり、地域社会が形成されていく過程の証でもあります。写真一枚一枚が語るのは、困難の中に芽生えた希望や、共同体としてのつながりの力です。

本展は、FPAPの理念である「個から公へ」を体現する場です。個人のアルバムから立ち上がった小さな記録が、地域の歴史へと繋がり、さらには島全体の時間軸の中に重ねられていく。その過程を目撃することができるのは、このプロジェクトならではの体験です。

地域住民の方々の協力に深く感謝するとともに、この展覧会が、過去を見つめ直しながら未来を考える「共有の記憶」の場となることを願っています。

The “Found Photo Archives Project (FPAP)” of the Yakushima Photography Festival (YPF) is an initiative to rediscover old photographs preserved in Yakushima’s 26 hamlets, weaving them anew into the hidden histories of local communities. This exhibition, “#04 Nagamine,” presents photographs collected from the family albums of the Nagamine district.

Nagamine is a community carved out in the early Showa period by settler groups. It is a land that bears the traces of people striving to build new lives amid steep terrain and harsh natural conditions. The photographs on display capture scenes of land reclamation, farming, children’s school life, and community events, vividly reflecting memories of Nagamine’s “beginnings.”

These images are more than private family records. They embody the gaze of a generation that transformed untouched land into a place of living, standing as testimony to the formation of a community. Each photograph tells of the hope that emerged from hardship and the strength of connections that bound people together as a collective.

This exhibition embodies the FPAP’s principle of “from the personal to the collective.” Small records lifted from personal albums become linked to regional history and are further layered into the larger timeline of the island. To witness this process is to encounter the unique experience that this project seeks to offer.
